SPEAK UP
for a Mueller Dog Park
People and dogs deserve a safe place to run, play and socialize.
Nearly 15,000 people now live in East Austin’s Mueller neighborhood. Hundreds of residents and visitors exercise their dogs in Mueller daily. As Mueller’s population has grown, conflicts between dogs and people are on the rise because there’s no safe space for dogs and their owners to safely socialize and play.
In 2024 the Austin Parks & Recreation Department (PARD) offered to fund a six-month pilot project for an off-leash dog park in Mueller. However, a greenways maintenance agreement between the city and the Mueller Property Owners Association (POA) requires both parties to approve off-leash space in the greenways.
Residents of Mueller and nearby neighborhoods overwhelmingly support off-leash space in Mueller but lack consensus on where it should be. Three surveys show more people want it in southeast Mueller, where the majority of POA members live. But there is also support for the Northwest Greenway next to the Delwood II neighborhood.
The Mueller Dog Park Coalition supports having pilot off-leash space in both the Northwest Greenway and Garcia Park in southeast Mueller. This is the only fair, unbiased and accurate way to assess which location is best for a majority of residents and will provide actual data and experience to assess the pros and cons of each location when deciding if and where permanent off-leash space should go.
